No deal! One Nation rejects preference arrangements with Liberal or Labor

5 March 2026

One Nation will recommend that South Australian voters put the party first on their ballot papers and will not suggest preferences for other candidates at the state election on 21 March.

Party leader Cory Bernardi said the ‘major’ parties had failed to deliver for South Australians and didn’t deserve any preferences.

“We’ve been approached by both branches of the uni-party, but we’ve decided there will be no preference deals,” Mr Bernardi said.

“Why would we recommend voters preference an arrogant Labor Party which uses circus events to distract people from major issues like ambulance ramping, the housing crisis and the rising cost of living and doing business?

“Why would we recommend voters preference a weak and divided Liberal Party which has failed to hold the government to account for the past four years?

“They’re two sides of the same coin. They’ve presided over a reduction in South Australians’ living standards, big increases in electricity prices, a worsening ambulance ramping problem, increasing homelessness and housing stress, and appalling neglect of regional communities. The state’s debt is more than $35 billion – rising to more than $48 billion in just three years – and there’s no plan from the uni-party to lower spending or reduce this liability on taxpayers.

“It’s always been One Nation’s position that voters own their preferences, not political parties. The uni-party only care about their own power and privilege, not the best interests of South Australians.

“This is what we’ll be recommending to South Australian voters at the polling booths: put One Nation first. That’s it. How voters number the other boxes on their ballot papers is up to them.

“One Nation represents real change. We represent a real alternative to the uni-party. We’ll be the strongest voice in Parliament for the South Australian people.”
